VETERANS HOME CARE

WELCOME

Veterans Home Care are very pleased that Our Hands That Care has joined forces with them to help veteran families receive the home care they need.  We look forward to working together to help as many veterans qualify to receive the Aid & Attendance pension to pay for their home care.

AID AND ATTENDANCE PENSION

The "Aid and Attendance" pension is a benefit for non-service related disabilities, available to veterans or their surviving spouses who qualify, in order to qualify for the pension:

  • The veteran must have served at least 90 days active duty in the military, with at least one day during wartime.
  • The applicant must be at least 60% housebound (no longer driving), which will require certification by a licensed physician.
  • The applicant must meet certain income and asset limits.

Applicants will need the following documentation to begin the application process:

  • Discharge papers
  • Death Certificate with cause of death (if client is a surviving spouse)
  • Marriage Certificate or other proof of marriage, including date (if client is a married veteran or surviving spouse

WAR PERIODS FOR ELIGIBILITY

  • World War ll from Dec. 7, 1941 - Dec. 31, 1946 / Must have served 90 days active duty
  • Korean War from June 27, 1950 - Jan. 31, 1955 / Must have served 90 days active duty
  • Vietnam War from Aug. 5, 1964 - May 7, 1975 / Feb. 28, 1961 for veterans who served "in country" (Vietnam) before Aug. 5, 1964
  • Persian Gulf War Aug. 2, 1990 / Must have served active duty for 2 years

3 REQUIREMENTS

  1. Served 90 days active duty, 1 day during wartime, Honorable discharge
  2. Medical Condition - Not driving
  3. Financial Limitations - Income & Assets

DOCUMENTS NEEDED

  • Marriage License (if married or surviving spouse)
  • Death Certification (if surviving spouse)
  • DD214 Honorable Discharge
  • Social Security Award Letter (if under 65, MUST have a Social Security Disability letter)
  • Copies of Previous Three (3) Months Bank Statements
